High Voltage Refresher Course
This 2-day training course is for anyone working on or around high voltage systems and has previously attended a 5-day high voltage operational safety course.
This is based on the distribution safety rules, by the end of this course attendees will
- Understand the key hazards of electricity and how danger may arise
- Understand how behavioural factors affect your working practices and approach to risks
- Refresh your knowledge of current safety legislation associated with the control and operation of an electrical system
- Gain knowledge of difference in switchgear designs and their ratings
- Understand how to plan HV work and the steps necessary to create safe work zones
- Practice creating switching schedules for the safe operation and work on HV systems and use of other electrical safety documentation
- Understand the techniques for cable identification, making safe at the point of work and cable testing
- Have practical switching experience on a range of different HV equipment
- Have practical experience identifying and making safe cables at the point of work by spiking cables and issuing safety documents
- Complete an end of course assessment (optional)
An optional third day is available for participants to undertake a practical cable works exercise. During this session, you will take on the role of the Senior Authorised Person (SAP) and plan a cable jointing operation. The hands-on experience includes identifying cables, performing spiking procedures, confirming cable colours, and conducting pressure testing.
